Newborn Photography – Create Heirloom Artwork For Generations

Newborn photography is a special art form. It enables you to capture the most precious moments in life and create heirloom artwork for generations.

When it comes to newborn photos, your baby is at their best in the first few weeks of life. This is because they are still very tiny and at their most pliable and delicate.

Location

The first few days of a baby are filled with joy and wonder, it’s a time to capture those precious moments. Newborn photos are an opportunity to create a timeless collection of memories that you will want to share with your loved ones for years to come.

Wellington has many stunning outdoor locations where you can capture these moments. Whitireia Park is a lovely location for sunrise or sunset sessions, the Botanic Gardens are also a beautiful setting.

Alternatively, you can book in for an in-home newborn photography session. These sessions are the perfect option if you’re looking for a more relaxed, natural setting with your baby.

Capturing the precious little details of a new life is one of the most rewarding experiences. It’s an amazing privilege to be able to document this magical time in your family’s history. We’ll work together to create a collection of memories that you can cherish forever.

Styling

There’s no better way to cherish those first moments with your newborn than to have a gorgeous photo of them. Those fingers & toes, the curly womb-like poses and that sneaky little smile are so much fun to capture.

Ideally, a session should take place within the first 7 days. This is when babies are most sleepy and cuddly but still able to pose well.

Feeding

The feeding of a newborn is an interesting subject to document and one which I have done quite a bit of work with. It can be an exciting and challenging time for new parents but there is a lot to learn and the rewards are well worth it!

A good professional newborn photographer will have a suite of equipment to aid in the task of capturing the images for their clients. This includes a DSLR and a good selection of lenses. They should also have a lighting kit and a studio setup to take advantage of the light. They may even need a backup camera just in case! Regardless of which camera is used it should be able to capture great quality images at a reasonable price. Lastly, they should have some sort of a business plan in place to keep them motivated and on track for success! Having a newborn photo session is the best way to remember your first few weeks with a baby and capture those memories in all their glory.

Lighting

Lighting is an important aspect of newborn photography as it makes your photographs look more natural and authentic. It also helps you capture the tiny details of your subject and conveys emotion.

When it comes to light positioning, the key is to see how your light source relates to the baby’s face. This will help you decide if the image is broad lit or short lit.

Another key thing to consider is feathering. This is when the light source skims across the baby’s face, creating deep but soft edged shadows.

Whether you use natural or studio lights, you need to learn how to control and shape the light to produce flattering images. You may not have the most expensive camera or equipment, but if you can learn how to use it correctly, your photos will look amazing!
